The Palace Theatre first opened its doors in 1920, showing “Kings Solomon’s Mines” . Its main use was as a Cinema , but it was also used to show plays. It was sold to the Star Cinema chain in the 1950’s and closed its doors in 1972.
Following a public outcry, the Cinema reopened, but since the opening of the Reel cinema in the town, it is mainly used for live entertainment.
The Palace was designated as a grade II listed building in 1993 .
